Startling Poetry: Her Ashes

Since April is National Poetry Month, I thought I would feature a new startling poem every day. I should have started this two days ago, but this week was not the best for me so… oh well.

Our first entry is…

Her ashes by Elizabeth Burns

As if she were a pot
placed in the kiln
for firing

may the kiln gods
who watch over the pottery
watch over her

as her body
is transformed
to spirit
